Field Trip

The kindergarten class had a field trip to the county fair today. J thought the trip was for his birthday! He was excited to go to the fair and just as excited to ride a school bus for the first time. He loved it! The kids got to see all of the animals and booths. They had stations set up that each class was able to visit and learn more about animals and agriculture. It was a fun morning!

J's class lined up and ready to go!

A lesson on gardening

Honey bees

Getting tattoos

They all got to hold a baby alligator.

Learning about dairy cattle

A sweet girl telling about her goat

All about chickens

J showed his friends all of Mamaw's quilts with blue ribbons. One of the them won Best of Show!

J got a blue ribbon on the pillow case he made with Mamaw.

After the fair, I met Mamaw and K at the school so we could have lunch with J. He was excited to introduce Mamaw to his teachers and friends!

A Movie and the Big Fair

Blake and I took the kids to the movie theater this afternoon to see Finding Nemo in 3D.  It was GREAT!!!  Well, we loved it.  K went to sleep and J kept asking why it wasn't a different Nemo movie.  He was happy to see a movie on the big screen but he is still a little young to notice the difference with the 3D glasses.  I thought it was pretty awesome!

After the movie, we ran a few errands before heading to the big fair.  J was disappointed after out little county fair.  The rides were not running when we went and there were only about four of them anyway!  This fair was MUCH bigger and J had to choose carefully which rides he wanted to ride.  K even had fun riding and would cry when she wasn't big enough for some of them.  She especially loved the carousel and we let her ride it twice.  J was able to ride several by himself and felt like such a big kid.  After the rides, we splurged on greasy fair food and checked out the animal barns.  There was a petting barn with small animals for the kids to see.  A calf licked their hands and K loved it!  She laughed and kept saying "wet."  We also found a building with educational activities about dairy cows and a place to cool off and play.  Before we left, we let J do the bungee jumping.  He turned flips and said it was the best thing he did at the fair!

We all had a fun time and look forward to going back next year!

County Fair

We visited our county fair tonight.  J loves the fair and he knows it always comes around the time of his birthday.  He likes to look at the animals and last year he got to ride rides for the first time.  He was looking forward to the rides but they weren't all ready yet.  But he had fun petting the goats, looking at the cows and chickens, and eating a cheeseburger in the fair kitchen.
K liked all of the animals but was especially impressed with the pigs.  Although before we left, she said, "Check cows Papaw."  That means she wanted to go check the cows with Papaw again.
Hopefully we will be able to go to a larger fair in a neighboring town so J can ride the rides and maybe even see a rodeo.

County Fair

Our local fair has been going on this week.  Usually J and I will go during the day when the rides are closed and no one is there to check on the booths and animals.  However, 4 year old boys like to ride the rides.  So, Thursday night we went to the fair and J got a wrist band to ride his little heart out.  He had a great time riding a pony, playing in bounce houses and a "jungle" gym, riding a few kiddie rides, and seeing some of his friends.  We ate dinner in the fair kitchen and watched one of our friends win champion in her age group for showing her calf.  We saw a 1000+ pound hog, lots of goats, and J asked a million questions about taking care of the cows.  He wants to show one next year.  We told him we might start with a goat and go from there!
We told him he could ride one more ride and he picked the mini roller coaster.  He was SO excited...until it went around one time and then he began screaming "SOMEBODY STOP THIS THING!  GET ME OUT OF HERE!"  The carney finally looked at me and then at him and let him off but he was almost in tears.  To make up for the horror, he got to ride one less exciting ride before we left with a fresh bag of blue cotton candy.
I'm not sure how I feel about the rides but I'm glad my little man had fun.  He wanted to go back yesterday but it rained.  (Thank goodness!)  He'll just have to wait until next year.
