Fort Bragg

On our last day in Fayetteville, we finally got to check out Fort Bragg.  Blake drove us around the base.  We only saw a piece of it.  The place is huge!  We went to the 82nd Airborne Museum.  It was great and J really loved the planes, trucks, and helicopters outside.
It was a good way to end our stay in Fayetteville!

Fort Fisher Aquarium

After an interesting worship service in Wilmington, we went back to the peninsula to the aquarium.  Fort Fisher is beautiful and serene.  The aquarium was small but the kids loved seeing all of the fish.  J even touched a shark!  K liked Nemo and was pretty interested in the lobster but didn't want to get too close to it.
We took one last walk in the sand before going back to Fayetteville.  It was a great weekend!

Broken Teeth and a Battleship

Our time in the sand was much shorter today because the weather is much cooler.  The wind was almost unbearable this morning so after a quick swim in the pool, we decided to visit the USS North Carolina in Wilmington.

We were slightly delayed in leaving for the battleship because K fell in the tub and chipped her two front teeth.  It breaks my heart to see her tiny broken teeth when she smiles.  Of course, something like this would happen on a holiday weekend when we are a thousand miles from home.  After a few phone calls home, we decided there was really nothing we could do at the time so we went on to Wilmington.

The USS North Carolina was great!  J loved seeing all of the guns and getting to "shoot" some of them.  We walked through the ship and got to see how everything worked.  J couldn't believe that so many people lived on the ship and that it was like its own little town.  He has learned a lot about the military on this trip.  He is very interested in all of it and has so many questions!

When we got back to Carolina Beach, it was snowing.  Good thing we are planning to leave tomorrow because the beach isn't much fun in the snow!

Carolina Beach

We are spending the weekend on the Atlantic Ocean!  It is beautiful and cold.  February isn't exactly the best time to come to the beach with kids but they are having fun anyway.  Today was a beautiful day.  The sun was shining and the wind was a little nippy this morning but the afternoon was nice.  We dug holes in the sand, built sand castles, and flew a kite.  I could stay here forever!

We took a walk on the empty beach this morning.  We found pieces of shells and tossed them back into the water.  The kids love running on the sand!

After our walk we found a nice spot for our blanket and sand toys.  J flew his kite and K dug in the dry sand.  We couldn't keep J out of the water.  He would stay here forever with me!

After a cool morning on the beach, J and K went for a swim in the indoor pool.

We are looking forward to another fun day tomorrow!

Happy Early Valentine's Day!

We are going to the beach tomorrow so I cooked a special Valentine supper a day early.  After our trip to Lumberton, the kids napped while I decorated the room and cooked.  Not bad for a holiday celebration in a hotel room!  J was especially excited.  After their naps, they helped me dip strawberries in chocolate for Blake.  It was nice to all be together for Valentine's Day!
