Happy Birthday, J!

Something amazing happened today!  My sweet J woke up a five year old.  The first thing he did was jump out of bed and say, "I'm five!  I'm bigger now!"  He was so excited!  I promised I would cook him chocolate chip pancakes, sausage, and eggs for breakfast.  And, of course, he woke up hungry so we went straight to the kitchen.  There was a surprise waiting for him though.

He was speechless!  Which is saying something because the boy never closes his mouth.  He couldn't believe that he had his very own fish.  However, he did tell me that if this one died he wants two goldfish to take it's place.  Way to think ahead, son!

Mamaw, Katherine, and I sang "Happy Birthday" to him over a pancake breakfast.  He licked the chocolate off of the candle and bit the end of the candle off.  He promptly spit out the wax!
For a very special treat, we met Leanne, J, and L at the local pizza place for lunch.  The two big boys had so much fun playing games and eating pizza.  The little ones had a blast too!  We were there for two hours and they still didn't want to leave.

Of course, a September birthday just isn't a real birthday without a little football.  We went to watch cousin G play in the eighth grade game for a little while before heading to soccer practice.

After soccer practice, J finally got to get his big present from all of us.  A new bicycle!  It is much bigger than the last one and has mud grips on the tires.  That obviously means he can ride in the muddy water!  He had to try it out and have Papaw adjust a few things so he can ride it better.  He loves it!

It was a very long day but J had a fun birthday!  I can't believe he is five.  It went by too fast!
I love you, baby boy.  Happy birthday!

Homecoming Pep Rally and Football Game

Since Luke graduated 2 years ago, I have sworn off football games and actually haven't been to one until tonight.  Cousin Ethan is a senior so I thought I should go to at least one and show my support.  Sweet K hasn't been to a game before either.  And, yes, I know it is cliche to only go to the homecoming game but I don't care.  Football games aren't that enjoyable with a squirming, sleepy baby.
The pep rally was fun.  Mom made K a new orange pettiskirt so she looked super cute!  J had his picture made with one of his favorite cheerleaders (her mom took it so I don't have the picture here.)  The homecoming court was lovely and the guys looked snazzy in their white tuxes.  I think that's the first time they have ever been white!  Apparently Ethan had something to do with that.  I believe he started a new tradition!
We were a little worried that K would get scared when the band played but she loved it!  She waved her arms and shouted.  That was her favorite part.  She did not, however, want her picture made with anyone.  J loved the pep rally even though he said it was loud.  He loves social events and pretty girls.  He is such a little man!
The football team isn't as good this year as it has been in the past.  Maybe after making it to the state playoffs for the last fifteen consecutive years and winning 3 championships in a row we are due for a slump.  Not that anyone would agree with me about that.  But we went to the game and cheered for the first quarter.  J went to the run through with Blake and I wrestled with K.  By the middle of the second quarter she had had enough so the two of us left.  Our team was ahead but as we were leaving the other team scored two touchdowns.  In the end though, our team won!  Yea!

At least Ethan is happy!

Hopefully I will have more pictures later.  I will have to get copies from Linda and Janet.

All About J

Yesterday was all about J.  Blake took off work so they could do some things together.  I had planned on cooking him breakfast but he said he just wanted a strudel.  When we told him he could have anything he wanted, he decided on a McDonald's hot cake happy meal.  So Blake got McDonald's for breakfast and then the boys headed to the deer camp to check on the new deer stand and drive around a little.  No hunting yet, of course, but boys have to make sure the deer are still there!
He got a little upset when they were leaving to come home because the four wheeler had a run in with the back window in the truck.  But he got to have a sandwich and onion rings from a little store near our house and that made things better.
After a much needed nap, we headed to the seventh grade football game to watch Gabe and Ty.  J had fun visiting with his friends and watching Gabe play.  He is the quarterback and did a really good job.  It was really hot so Mom, K, and I stood under the bleachers most of the game to shield Baby from the sun but we caught bits and pieces.  I checked on J periodically and he was happy in the stands.
Because of the game, we didn't cook dinner.  Since it was also Papaw's birthday, we let him pick where to eat so we ended up at the local fish place.  J likes it because he gets to eat mozzarella sticks for dinner and look at the fish in the big tanks.  After dinner we went back to Mamaw and Papaw's for presents and cake.  J requested a strawberry cake with no icing so that's what he got.  He is the only kid I know that would rather have the cake.  All of his friends lick off the frosting and leave the cake!  Funny guy!
He got some great presents and has been playing with them all day.  He especially loves the Thomas Lego set.  I built it for him this morning and he loves it!  Thanks Mamaw and Papaw!  He also got several new books including an ABC book from Seth and Jules about our state that is really neat.  It tells all kinds of interesting facts and shares places that we have never been.

I think he had a pretty good birthday.  Now I officially have a four year old in my house!  What a little dude!
