Christmas at Mimi and Poppy's

We had Christmas with Mimi and Poppy on Blake's birthday. He's 36! Happy birthday, Dear!

After lunch and presents, the five of us took Blake shopping for a new suit and dress pants. Then we went to see Annie. M did great during the movie and we all liked it.

Blake's Birthday and Christmas in Texarkana

We celebrated Christmas with Blake's parents and sister today. It's also Blake's birthday so we had a little birthday cake too. Happy 35th birthday, Blake!

Ready for presents!

We spent all day with Mimi and Poppy. For supper, Poppy had promised J we would have pizza. We went to a place that was close to this sign. The kids were in Arkansas and Texas at the same time. They thought that was pretty neat!

Road Trip

The kids and I left this morning to visit Blake.  He is away teaching the brave men and women who protect our freedom and is actually in a fun place this time!  I decided 17 hours didn't sound so bad so rather than buy three plane tickets, we loaded up the Yukon and hit the road.  Although, we aren't going to make the whole trip alone.  We drove seven hours today and we are picking up Blake at the airport so that he can make the rest of the trip with us.

After only one hour on the road, this is what was happening in our car!  McDonald's breakfast!
Can you tell they are watching a movie? (And, yes, K is using a DVD case as a plate.  Those things are very useful!)

Hot chocolate and Coke...Breakfast of champions!

The afternoon was spent like this.

This is what they missed.  Snow on one side of the road and sunshine on the other.

We made it to the airport to pick up Blake.  They were very impatient!

We have a ton of fun things planned and we haven't really decided when we are going home.  It's going to be an exciting couple of weeks!

Happy Birthday, Blake!

Today is Blake's birthday!  He had a great day playing in the snow with J.  Because of the weather we didn't make it to Mimi and Poppy's for Christmas today so I didn't cook for Blake's birthday either.  We took him out to our local Mexican restaurant.  J told the waitress it was his daddy's birthday so they brought him a special dessert and sang to him.  He got to wear a sombrero and they gave him a free t-shirt.  Hilarious!

Happy birthday, dear!  I love you.

Alaska Part 1

May 24, 2012
It rained all day today.  It was really cool to see the clouds roll in and out around the mountains all day.  By the end of the day today I could barely see the mountains because the clouds had covered them completely.

MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH A MOOSE!!!!!!
I finally got to see some wildlife today. This is a picture of a moose that was just taking a leisurely stroll through our motorpool today. I jumped out of the car and was about 25 feet from it.  This moose apparently doesn't like to have pictures taken of it. The moose stopped, turned its head towards me, laid its ears back, and made a growling sound!  I also saw a bear today but didn't get a picture of it.  I'm sure I'll see another one though.

24 Hours of Light
This picture was taken at around 11:45 p.m. last night.  This is one thing that I cannot get used to.  It gets a little dark for a couple of hours then lightens up again.

Potter Marsh is a really cool place to take pictures.  You can sometimes see wildlife such as moose, geese, coyotes, and all kinds of birds.  I really liked it because it is an area that is just clean and for the most part untouched.

These were some pictures I took along Seward Highway going south out of Anchorage. It was really neat to get out of the city and into the countryside. Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I have visited.
