First Haircut and a Loose Tooth

K's hair has grown so much and is just lovely but it's been tangling a lot lately so I decided it was time for a little trim.  She was such a big girl.  She sat on the bathroom counter while I trimmed about an inch off of the ends.  It looks so much healthier and hopefully it will start to get thicker now.

In other news, J has a loose tooth.  He forgets about it sometimes so it may tighten back up but for now, he has a loose tooth!  He was pretty excited about it when he found it.  He asked me why it was loose and I told him it was because he is five.  That put a smile on his face.  He thinks everything is better because he is five!

Pumpkin Carving

J has been so excited about carving a pumpkin this year!  Because we already cut into one during our pumpkin investigation last week, I let him carve it over the weekend.  He drew the face by himself (well, almost...I drew the eyebrows).  Then, with a little help from Daddy and K, he cleaned out the inside.  After a little help from Daddy to get started, he carved the face mostly on his own.  We have a special pumpkin carving knife so we felt pretty good that he wouldn't cut any fingers off!  I think he did a fantastic job!

Autumn Preschool Activities: Pumpkins

We are still going through our autumn activities.  We centered most of our activities around pumpkins last week but started out the week with a little apple seed addition.

J is already pretty familiar with life cycles so after reading a book about pumpkins, he easily told me the life cycle of a pumpkin.  I put a large one on the wall and he made his own smaller version.

On Thursday, we cut open a pumpkin and compared the outside with the inside.  We made a Venn diagram to show same and different characteristics.

He made his own pumpkin book to show the inside and outside of a pumpkin.  You can't see them very well, but he cut strings to go with the seeds.

Both kids made pumpkin prints using their fists.  I didn't get a picture of K's.

They also painted paper sack pumpkins.  K loves to paint so this was the highlight of her week!

J colored a little book and read it to me.

I also had little pumpkin cut outs (similar to the apples) with the numbers 1 to 20 written on them.  We reviewed number recognition and will use them next week to do a little concrete addition.
I added sounds to the alphabet chart routine.  C, G, and the vowels are a little confusing but he knows most of the other consonant sounds.  I have a vowel song I learned from the teacher I student taught under and he likes it.  If you have a cute song or poem for remembering the other sounds, I would love to hear it!
What kinds of fall activities are you doing with your kids?

Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Mom and I took the kids to the pumpkin patch Saturday.  We went to the same one last year and J was really excited about going back.  K was pretty happy to run around and look at everything as well.  And aren't they so CUTE in their little pumpkin shirts!  Mom and I made J's Friday night.  I love the way it turned out.  (I cut...Mom sewed!)

They got to pet and feed goats and a pig.

We watched the pig races.  These are hilarious!

They played on a hay mountain and slid down the slide.  J climbed through the tunnel but K just peeked in.  She wouldn't climb through.

We rode the cow train.  I held K and J rode in a car by himself.  This is the part that J was looking forward to the most but you can't tell from his picture!

My sweet little pumpkins!  This is the best picture we could get.  Why is it so hard to get two kids to look at the camera and smile at the same time?

Look how much they have grown in a year.  J's feet didn't touch the ground last year and this year he looks like a ten year old!  K is wearing the same skirt though.  It was a little big last year!

No Cavities and a Visit

Monday, the kids had appointments to have their teeth cleaned.  J did great and had no cavities!  K actually went back with the hygienists without me but when they started to clean J's teeth first, she got scared and I had to go hold her.  She watched J intently and when her turn came, she cried but opened her mouth and let them clean her teeth.  She had no cavities too!  Hooray for clean teeth!

After the appointments, we went to Mimi and Poppy's--we had spent the night with them--and had lunch.  The kids played the Wii.  Well, J played and K pretended to play.  She wanted to stand on the board with J so we got her a stool.

After lunch, the kids jumped on the trampoline for a bit before we had to head home.

When we got home, we found Papaw, Mamaw, and Seth taking out our kitchen cabinets.  J found a walking stick on the porch.  He was so proud of himself for picking it up!  He asked me to take his picture.  K had just woken up and I love her hair after she wakes up!  She was happy to see her Mamaw!
