7 months old

K was seven months old on Sunday.  Wow!  I know I say this every month but time sure does fly.  She is so sweet and fun!  We love every minute with her.
She loves to play with her toys.  She likes to sit in the floor with J and play.  She army crawls everywhere so you can't turn your back or she is into something.  J is learning to keep his toys picked up so she doesn't put little things in her mouth.  Her favorite toys right now are her indestructable books, rattles, and a little music maker that I bought when J was a baby.  She loves to sit in the exersaucer.  We are also trying a walker.  Shh...don't tell Dr. D!  Her feet barely touch the ground so she isn't moving much in it yet but she seems to like it anyway.
She eats anything we will give her and loves it all.  We have almost finished the Ella's Kitchen blends and are moving on to the Plum Organics step 2 foods.  She knows when it is dinner time and lets us know when she is hungry.  I have resorted to giving her the fresh food feeder with crushed ice in it just to make her happy while the rest of us eat.  She has eaten fresh fruits and veggies in the feeder too and makes such a mess!  At least she is happy.
She loves to nurse, swim, take baths, go outside, watch J, Mommy, being at home, and attention.  She doesn't like drying off, getting dressed, sitting still, riding in the car, or being ignored.
We are just waiting for her to start crawling on her hands and knees.  And we are going to have to lower her bed because she will be pulling up soon too.  The time goes too quickly!  I wish she would stay a baby longer.
We love our sweet K!

Old Friends

Today I got to spend a few hours catching up with old friends.  Brandie, Amanda, and I started at Harding the same year.  Amanda and I had gone to church camp together when we were younger but hadn't seen each other in years.  We ended up pledging the same social club, one we won't mention by name.  Sophomore year, Amanda and Brandie were roommates.  We have been friends ever since.
Amanda just lives 30 minutes from me but we hardly ever see each other.  The three of us try to get together when big things happen in our lives.  Babies, funerals, weddings, and new houses!  Today I picked Amanda up and we drove the hour and a half to Brandie's new house.  Which is beautiful by the way!  We had a great visit and Brandie had a delicious lunch for us.  K and Brandie's baby "played."  He is four months older so it will be a little while before they really have fun together.  Amanda and I left the big boys with family so we wouldn't have to chase after them.
So much has changed since college.  Back then it was all about studying, boys, concerts, and such.  Now we are all so busy with kids, living in different towns with different routines it takes us a couple of weeks to pick out one day in a month that we can all meet up.  But I'm so glad we have stayed friends and still find that one day to spend together.

And we will just bask in the glow of those concert going 20 year olds.  Just look at that hair.  Look at that chin.  Who knew I ever had one of those!  By the end of the month, the three of us will all have turned thirty.  Maybe in ten more years, we will be done having kids and will be planning weekends away from them to catch up with one another.
What a great day!

Happy 4th of July!

We celebrated the holiday very quietly this year.  Saturday and Monday we were busy putting up corn and Sunday was worship.  We went to the family picnic at our church building Saturday night.  J had fun playing in the bounce houses, playing ball with the big boys, and getting his face painted.  We attempted to paint K's face but she kept looking for the brush.  We were all very tired and hot so we left the picnic early to swim at Mamaw and Papaw's house.  We didn't even go outside to see the fireworks display in town.  We went right to sleep!

Monday night, we all went to Seth and Jules' for steaks and ice cream.  It was nice spending the evening with our family.  Because of the burn ban, we didn't have our own fireworks this year.

I am mindful of the men and women who are protecting our country.  I am so very thankful that we have people who are willing to sacrifice themselves so that the rest of us may be free.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. ~John F. Kennedy

Playing

K is really starting to like playing with her toys.
She sits up in the floor and talks and plays.  It is so sweet!
She likes to have the whole basket.
And tries to pull it over.
Big brother is very helpful with dumping out the toys.
She is one happy girl!

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

Picnik

I'm sure that you all know about Picnik but because I am behind in the world of technology, I am just now using it.  Picnik makes editing photos easy and fun!  I am just using the free version right now but if I get a new camera this summer, I may be tempted to pay a little so I can do more with it.  Here are some of the things you can do with the free version:

And this is just the basic stuff.  You can whiten teeth, make yourself look thinner, add stars to your eyes, and so much more.

Trying New Things

Last night, Baby K ate her first green food...spinach, apples, and rutabaga.  It is an Ella's Kitchen combination.  I love that most of the food she is eating have fruits mixed with the veggies.  It makes them a little more appetizing.  We just gave her a little last night to try and she liked it.  So tonight she ate more and made a mess.  I'm so glad she is a good eater so far.  J still has a hard time with veggies.

We are also trying out sippy cups.  I have two different ones right now.  One of them is just like the one J liked when he was a wee thing.  The other one is a training cup that is hard to get anything out of but she actually will suck on it as opposed to chewing it.  She will drink out of my glass or water bottle with no problem and can almost suck on a straw so we are making progress.

She is growing so fast!  I wish time would stand still for a bit so I can absorb it all.

The rutabaga, swede (from Swedish turnip), or yellow turnip (Brassica napobrassica, or Brassica napus var. napobrassica, or Brassica napus subsp. rapifera) is a root vegetable that originated as a cross between the cabbage and the turnip.
